Where is the training?
For the July starting Fit program training for the Tri-City Medical Center Carlsbad Marathon or Half, we have two meeting locations: Hospitality Point on Mission Bay and at the Sheraton in Carlsbad. Both the In Motion Fit Plus and In Motion Fit AFC Half Training Program meet in San Diego and move around to different locations each week within San Diego County.

Can walkers participate?
Walkers are welcome in In Motion Fit Plus and the July starting In Motion Fit Tri-City Medical Center Carlsbad Marathon & Half Marathon Training programs. For this program we have a wonderful walking program that will enable you to complete the Carlsbad Marathon or Half Marathon in the required time limits. The America's Finest City Half Marathon has course restrictions that make it less walker friendly.
Click here for more information on the marathon time limit.

Are you affiliated with a charity?
In Motion Fit is not associated with a charity and you do not need to raise money to participate in this program. There are several good marathon-training programs where raising money for a charity is part of the program. While these can be effective and rewarding, we realize that it's not for everyone and may be impossible to do year after year. Some of our members choose to raise money for a charity, but it certainly isn't a requirement.

What is an ability-based color group?
In Motion Fit is divided into training groups. You will be placed in the group that best suits your training pace. For example, if you train at a 9- to 10-minute-per-mile pace, you will be a member of the Yellow group. This system works because it allows you to train with those who are at your ability level.
These groups are:
Yellow = Faster than 10-minute pace marathoners
Red = 10- to 13:44(marathon course time limit pace)-minute pace marathoners
Orange = Faster than 12-minute pace half marathoners
Green = 12- to 15-minute pace half marathoners
Purple = 15-minute+ pace half marathoners

What color group will I be in?
For our July program training for the Tri-City Medical Center Carlsbad Marathon or Half, at our orientation, we'll have everyone do a 1-mile or a 3-mile pacing activity. You should walk or run at a comfortable conversational pace for this pacing activity. If you cannot talk, then you are running or walking too fast. Your time for this activity will be used to help us determine the best color group for you. For In Motion Fit Plus and In Motion Fit AFC Half Training Program, our coaches will place you in the appropriate color group.

What are the seminars?
On most weekends, after the group run/walk, we'll do announcements then hold a 15- to 20-minute seminar. Topics will all be health and fitness related, and will be led by knowledgeable professionals or coaches.

What happens on any given Saturday?
First you walk or run with your color group. Your start time will vary from week to week and will be posted on the website. The seminar will follow the workout and begin at approximately 9:00 a.m.

Does entry into In Motion Fit include entry into the race we're training for (if applicable)
No, your payment to In Motion Fit only covers the cost of your participation in the training program.

How much training does this program involve?
Realizing that most people lead very busy lives, this program is one that can easily fit into your schedule. For the most part, the program calls for running or walking only 4 days a week. Your long run or walk will usually take place on Saturday with your group. During the week, you run or walk for time only (i.e., 30 minutes), not for distance.
[top]
What does 20 on the weekly schedule (during the week) mean? Are we running 20 miles?
During the week, we run for minutes. If the schedule says "30" on a Tuesday, you should run or walk 30 minutes. Do this at a comfortable pace unless instructed to do otherwise. On the weekends, we do miles, so the schedule will say 4 miles. Listen to your coaches on how to run these miles each week.
[top]
Do I have to be there every week?
No, many members are unable to make every weekend session. The weekend seminars are important, but you can always ask your coach or running buddies about what you missed. However, those long runs/walks are a lot easier when you're doing them with the group! And in our experience, the success of our members is directly proportional to their ability to attend our weekend training runs/walks and seminars. When you do have to miss a week, check this website for the next week's schedule.

Can we participate in races during training?
Sure! In fact, we encourage you to experience a race situation prior to competing in the race you'll be training for.
