If it is past the registration date, can I still join In Motion Fit?
Once a Fit program has kicked off, we'll accept new members on a case-by-case basis. Please call In Motion at 760.692.2900 or send an email to inquire.
I'm not a member. Do you allow drop-ins?
In Motion Fit does not have a drop-in program. Our all-inclusive membership covers our seminars, coaching, and training runs/walks.
What In Motion Fit programs do you offer?
We offer three programs:
1. In Motion Fit Tri-City Medical Center Carlsbad Marathon & Half Marathon Training. This program starts in July and ends with the Carlsbad Marathon or Half Marathon at the end of January. This program offers two meeting locations: San Diego and Carlsbad.
2. In Motion Fit Plus. This maintenance program begins in February just after the Tri-City Medical Center Carlsbad Marathon & Half Marathon and is geared for those who've either just completed the program or are already running or walking and want to continue to run or walk with a group. This program moves around and meets in various locations throughout San Diego County.
Where is the training?
From July through January, the In Motion Fit Tri-City Medical Center Carlsbad Marathon & Half Marathon program will meet in two locations: Hospitality Point on Mission Bay and at West Inn & Suites in Carlsbad. The group will also meet occasionally at the Road Runner Sports stores in San Diego and Carlsbad. From February to July, the In Motion Fit Plus program will move around and meet in different locations throughout San Diego County.
Can walkers participate?
Walkers are welcome in all programs. If you are a walker interested in participating in either the Tri-City Medical Center Carlsbad Marathon or Half Marathon, be sure to check out the information below on the time limits before registering for either event.

Click here for more information on the half marathon time limit.
Are you affiliated with a charity?
In Motion Fit is not associated with a charity and you do not need to raise money to participate in this program. There are several good marathon-training programs where raising money for a charity is part of the program. While these can be effective and rewarding, we realize that it's not for everyone and may be impossible to do year after year. Some of our members choose to raise money for a charity, but it certainly isn't a requirement.
What color group will I be in?
For the In Motion Fit Tri-City Medical Center Carlsbad Marathon & Half Marathon Training program we'll have everyone do a 1-mile or a 3-mile pacing activity at the July orientation. You should walk or run at a comfortable conversational pace for this pacing activity. If you cannot talk, then you are running or walking too fast. Your time for this activity will be used to help us determine the best color group for you. For In Motion Fit Plus, our coaches will place you in the appropriate color group.
What is an ability-based color group?
In Motion Fit is divided into training groups. You will be placed in the group that best suits your training pace. For example, if you train at a 9- to 10-minute-per-mile pace, you will be a member of the Yellow group. This system works because it allows you to train with those who are at your ability level.
These groups are:
Yellow = Faster than 10-minute-per-mile pace marathoners
Red = 10- to 13:44(marathon course time limit pace)-minute-per-mile pace marathoners
Orange = Faster than 12-minute-per-mile pace half marathoners
Green = 12- to 15-minute-per-mile pace half marathoners
Purple = 15-minute-per-mile pace and above half marathoners
What happens on any given Saturday?
First you walk or run with your color group. Your start time will vary from week to week and will be posted on this website. The seminar will follow the workout and begin at approximately 9 a.m.
What are the seminars?
On most Saturdays, after the group run/walk, we'll do announcements then hold a 15- to 20-minute seminar. Topics will all be health- and fitness-related, and will be led by knowledgeable professionals or coaches.
What is included with my registration?
- Ability-based group workouts and coaching
- Weekly seminars
- Weekly training schedules
- In Motion Fit technical fabric shirt
- Social activities and more!
Does my In Motion Fit registration fee include entry into the race we're training for (if applicable)?
No, your In Motion Fit registration fee only covers the cost of your participation in the training program. You will need to register and pay separately for any races you wish to participate in.
What happens at the orientation?
The orientation includes registration, a program introduction and a 1- or 3-mile pacing activity which helps place you in the correct color group. The orientation will take approximately 1.5 to 2 hours.
Yes, you can register and pay online with a credit card. Credit cards are also accepted at the orientation.
I can't make it to the first weekend -- should I still sign up?
Yes, you should still sign up! Our coaches can get you up to speed when you are able to attend.
Can we participate in races during training?
Sure! In fact, we encourage you to experience a race situation prior to participating in the race you'll be training for.
How much training does this program involve?
Realizing that most people lead very busy lives, this program is one that can easily fit into your schedule. For the most part, the program calls for running or walking only 4 days a week. Your long run or walk will usually take place on Saturday with your group. During the week, you run or walk for time only (i.e., 30 minutes), and for distance on Saturday.
What does 20 on the weekly schedule (during the week) mean? Are we running 20 miles?
During the week, we run for minutes. If the schedule says "30" on a Tuesday, you should run or walk 30 minutes. Do this at a comfortable pace unless instructed to do otherwise. On the weekends, we do miles, so the schedule will say 4 miles. Listen to your coaches on how to run these miles each week.
No, many members are unable to make every Saturday session. The Saturday seminars are important, but you can always ask your coach or running buddies about what you missed. However, those long runs/walks are a lot easier when you're doing them with the group! And in our experience, the success of our members is directly proportional to their ability to attend the Saturday training runs/walks and seminars. When you do have to miss a week, check this website for the next week's schedule.
